Can A Person Overdose On CBD Oil? 1080 540 The Farmula

CBD oil has been know to help people get over a number of problems, such as stress, anxiety, and chronic pain. Yet, as the popularity of CBD products continues to blossom, the concern for safety will also grow. Whenever you are taking something for pain relief, you begin to wonder if there is a risk involved.

One worry that people have is whether you can overdose on CBD or not. Today, we’re going to investigate if it is possible to take too much CBD, so keep reading.

What Is CBD?

First off, let’s talk about CBD, also known as cannabidiol, an organic compound, or cannabinoid, found in cannabis and hemp. Unlike THC, another cannabinoid known for its psycho-active effects, CBD will not make you high. Knowing this, you should also know that CBD is not addictive. Therefore, you cannot overdose on it as if it were a pharmaceutical or drug.

In other words, CBD does everything THC does, such as relieving stress, anxiety, inflammation, nausea, insomnia, and depression, but without the high and other less pleasant side effects.

Can You Build a Tolerance to CBD?

One reason some prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs can be dangerous is because you can gradually become tolerant to the dosage. You start increasing the dose, and soon, you may accidentally take too much.

You may be wondering, “How many CBD capsules can I take before it’s too much?”, “How many CBD gummies are too much?”, or “What if I start building up a tolerance to CBD?” There are many studies that have concluded that you really do not build up a tolerance to CBD products. Plus, there has been anecdotal evidence from individuals who have used CBD oil for years without building a tolerance.

Of course, the opposite may occur. You may also experience something called “reverse tolerance,” which means you need less of an amount to get the desired effects. If you think that you are building up a tolerance to CBD, you can try decreasing the dose, changing the time you take it, or even take a short break from CBD to see if that helps.

Can You Overdose on CBD?

Let us start off by saying that there was a study in 2011 that looked for the toxicity level of CBD by dosing subjects with 1,500 mg [1]. There were no signs. Additionally, CBD is not toxic. Few side effects are ever experienced by CBD users.

That said, the true toxicity level of CBD is thought to be around 20,000 mg taken in a single dose, which is probably impossible [2].

The US National Cancer Institute has also state that the body’s cannabinoid receptors are not located in the brain stem regions controlling breathing like opioid receptors, so lethal overdoses cannot technically occur that way.

How High of a Dose is Too Much?

Not that you know that you cannot overdose on CBD and that there is really no way to die from it, you may be wondering, “How much CBD is too much?”

It depends on you and your body.

Some people will have a bad experience with CBD, but you cannot get high from it, and it will not kill you.

The worst CBD can do to you is the following:

• Nausea
• Anxiety and depression
• Dizziness
• Diarrhea
• Drowsiness
• Vomiting
• Dry mouth
• Changes in appetite

However, these side effects may occur with any dose. It truly is up to how your body processes CBD. Therefore, for some people 300 mg might be the limit while others may be able to tolerate much more.

What is The Right Amount of CBD?

To date, there has been little success in studies to find a limit to CBD dosages for some individuals. There have been studies using 1-5 mg of CBD and others that have participants taking upwards of 1,500 mg a day [3]. So far, none of these studies ended up recording anything particularly harmful to the body.

This could mean a number of things, but the main lesson to take away from this is that everyone has a unique dosage. Since every body is different, your needs are going to be different from others as well.

In order to find the right amount of CBD for you, you need to do some experimentation. Also think about what kind of benefits you would like and what you are trying to treat. That can help you pinpoint the right dose for you.

Here are some common dosages:

• Chronic pain – take around 2.5-25 milligrams
• Sleep problems – 40-160 milligrams daily
• Migraines – 200 mg
• Chron’s/IBD/Colitis – 10 mg/lb
• Arthritis – around 60 mg

But regardless of where you fall on this recommended scale, remember to start low and work your way up until you start feeling the effects.
